Houston Chronicle: Regenerative grazing is helping Texas ranchers cash in

March 10, 2026 By windmill

Sneary Cattle was featured in The Houston Chronicle as they hosted a field day for fellow ranchers to demonstrate high-stock density grazing. The Sneary’s have converted their 4,000 acres of ranch land in Matagorda County southeast of Houston to a regenerative ranching operation 10 years ago and is an ongoing success story for those who want to follow in their footsteps.

Beef prices are soaring — and regenerative grazing is helping Texas ranchers thrive. Read the latest Houston Chronicle opinion article to learn how this approach strengthens drought resilience, restores soil health, and produces premium-quality cattle.

GrassRoots Carbon “A Legacy That Pays”

February 10, 2026 By windmill

Loy and Adam Sneary of Sneary Cattle demonstrate how regenerative grazing can restore land health, strengthen ranch economics, and create a future worth passing on.

The film explores the economic and generational challenges facing ranching families, highlighting producers who prove that regenerative land stewardship and long-term profitability can scale together.

The future of ranching—and the carbon solutions tied to it—depends on whether the next generation can build both a living and a life on working lands. Grassroots Carbon believes durable carbon solutions must work in the real world and deliver measurable impact. That means supporting practices that strengthen ranch economics, build ecological resilience, and deliver verified carbon outcomes, while ensuring producers are fairly compensated for the value they create and the carbon they store in healthy grasslands.

Sneary Cattle is grateful for the support of the Wildlife Habitat Federation, whose work in developing the ranch’s Conservation and Grazing Plan enabled qualification for the GRC Carbon Program.

Sneary Cattle Regenerative Grazing Practices Featured in Houston Chronicle

December 20, 2018 By windmill

Sneary Cattle and Windmill Farms were featured in the Houston Chronicle an “Essay: These ranchers preserve a Texan way of life while fighting climate change” by Raj Mankad, Nov 2022.

… many ranchers are managing their herds in a way that restores soil. One of them is Loy Sneary, 72, whose family owns and leases 4,000 acres of ranch land in Matagorda County southeast of Houston

‘You’ve probably seen ranches where they just turn the cattle out, and cattle go wherever they want to graze,’ Loy told me. Since 1918, when the family of Loy’s wife settled the property, that’s how they ranched. The shift in mindset of bringing the cattle into much smaller areas to prevent overgrazing was a hurdle.

This story isn’t primarily about carbon markets and the emerging science on scaling up soil carbon sequestration. It’s mostly about ranchers believing they are stewards of the land, wanting to leave behind a legacy for their families.
