Windmill Farms in Matagorda County, Texas, produces the highest quality Jiggs Bermuda Grass hay and Gordo hay. Windmill Farms strives to produce the best possible hay that provides high nutrition and digestibility to the animals that you value the most.
Windmill Farms is owned and operated by the Sneary family, who have been working land in Matagorda County for four generations. Adam Sneary, General Manager, is the third generation to work this particular parcel of land. Previously a highly productive rice field, the Sneary’s converted the land to hay production in 2000.
In addition to running one of the most sophisticated and largest hay operations in Southeast Texas, the Sneary’s also run over 1000 head of cattle. They understand what it takes to run a profitable agricultural operation and how important nutrition is to the bottom line.
One of the family goals is to provide customers the highest quality hay which will make it possible for them to reduce feed cost. This focus on quality has customers coming back year after year!
Located in Clemville, Texas the hay farm sits:
- 5 miles northwest of Markham
- 12 miles Northwest of Bay City
- 20 miles south of El Campo
- 40 miles West of Edna
- 60 miles Southeast of Victoria
Production
Just as you provide the best for your animal, Windmill Farms pays attention to the details of quality hay production. Each year the farm produces:
- 2000-5000 square bales of Jiggs Hay
- 1800-2200 round bales of Jiggs hay
- 400-600 bales of Gordo hay per year
The hay production season is from May to November. During that time hay is cut every 21-30 days to insure that the hay is fine and leafy.
Quality from the Start
Even before the first crop of Jiggs Hybrid Bermuda hay was planted, the Sneary’s had quality production in mind. Because exceptional hay requires excellent drainage, special attention was given to land preparation and land forming which included precision grading nearly 500 acres using laser-controlled land forming equipment. Hay that stands in water, whether because of rain or flood irrigation, suffers stress that results in lower nutrient value. The new technology used in the design process at Windmill Farms insures that every acre has optimum drainage, which makes for top quality hay.
Steven Noisier, one of the top custom grass planters in the state, plants all Windmill Farms hay using the latest in grass planting technology. Because of the precise manner the hay is planted, the Jiggs hay fields are nearly 100% Jiggs, insuring that you get clean Jiggs hay minimizing less desirable grasses and weeds.
Leaders in Hay Production
Windmill Farms is proud to have been honored the host location for the Matagorda County Hay Show sponsored by Texas A&M The latest in hay production equipment was demonstrated and A&M’s top Cooperative specialists conducted a very informative educational program.
